A Milestone for Clean Energy Skills

The Western Australian Government has launched an Industry Advisory Board to spearhead the Clean Energy Skills National Centre of Excellence (CESNCE), the first of its kind in Australia. Backed by a $70.5 million joint investment from Federal and State Governments, CESNCE aims to build a skilled workforce to support WA's transition to a clean energy economy.

WA's Clean Energy Workforce Gets a Boost with New Advisory Board

Diverse Leadership for Strategic Impact

The Advisory Board comprises ten members representing industry, unions, First Nations people, government, TAFE, and universities. Western Power’s Executive Manager of Transition and Sustainability, Matthew Cheney, serves as Chair, bringing expertise in energy and decarbonization. The Board will advise on training infrastructure, workforce strategies, and policy alignment for the clean energy sector.

Driving Skills Development

CESNCE’s newly appointed General Manager, Ty Theodore, will oversee skills development and stakeholder engagement. With a background in strategic partnerships and adult education, Theodore will lead efforts to design innovative training programs, including career tasters, to attract talent to clean energy fields.

A $200 Billion Opportunity

WA’s clean energy pipeline is projected to generate $200 billion in investment and create approximately 351,000 jobs between 2025 and 2050. A new CESNCE website highlights opportunities in hydrogen, battery, solar, wind, and energy minerals, offering insights into training options and careers.

Transforming Education and Training

The CESNCE will enhance WA’s TAFE system by integrating world-class training in clean energy technologies. Climate Action Minister Reece Whitby emphasized the importance of regional access to these programs, ensuring all Western Australians can benefit from the transition to a net-zero economy.

Federal Support for Clean Energy Excellence

Federal Skills Minister Andrew Giles lauded the initiative, highlighting the government’s commitment to innovative training facilities and preparing workers for emerging technological challenges. The collaboration underscores a shared vision of positioning WA as a global leader in clean energy.
