Victoria’s renewable energy transition has reached a significant milestone with the launch of two wind farms, Ryan Corner Wind Farm and Hawkesdale Wind Farm, which together can power 208,000 homes across the state.
Powering Victoria with Wind Energy
Ryan Corner Wind Farm: One of Victoria’s largest, featuring 52 turbines generating 218MW—enough to power 140,000 homes.
Hawkesdale Wind Farm: With 23 turbines, it produces 97MW, powering 67,000 homes.
Renewable Energy Leadership
The Victorian Government continues to exceed its climate targets, with renewables meeting 49% of the state’s electricity needs in October 2024. Wind energy alone accounted for 23%. Since 2014, wind power generation in the state has quadrupled.
Economic and Community Benefits
Renewable energy targets are set to inject $9.5 billion into the economy, creating 59,000 jobs, with regional Victoria seeing the majority of these benefits.
Global Power Generation, the developer of both farms, has implemented Community Engagement and Benefit Sharing Plans to ensure local communities gain ongoing advantages from these projects.
Victorian Minister for Energy and Resources, Lily D’Ambrosio, emphasized, “With 4.7GW of wind energy across 42 projects, Victoria is laying the foundation for a secure and sustainable energy future.”
