A dramatic helicopter rescue unfolded in Brazil on November 26 when two workers were trapped atop a Siemens Gamesa wind turbine after a fire broke out in its generator.

Quick Response to a Dangerous Situation
The incident occurred at the Mel wind farm in Rio Grande do Norte, operated by Iberdrola’s local subsidiary, Neoenergia. While the fire was swiftly extinguished by the company’s internal fire brigade, a malfunction in the lifting system left the workers stranded 60 meters above ground.
The Integrated Air Operations Center (CIOPAER) deployed a Eurocopter AS 350B2 helicopter to safely extract the workers, supported by the State’s Military Fire Department.
Workers Safe, Investigation Underway
Neoenergia reported that both employees were rescued without injury, received first aid, and were later discharged from the hospital. An investigation has been launched to determine the fire's cause.
“Neoenergia is providing all necessary support to the employees and awaits the conclusion of the incident report,” a company spokesperson said.
This highlights the risks and rapid response required in renewable energy operations, emphasizing the importance of robust safety and emergency protocols.
