Ballan residents can now benefit from the State Electricity Commission’s (SEC) Electric Home Planner, a digital tool designed to streamline the transition to energy-efficient electric hot water heat pumps, reducing both energy bills and emissions.
How the Planner Works
The free online tool guides users through a personalized survey about their home and energy usage, delivering tailored recommendations on:
Cost-saving appliance upgrades
Available rebates (like $1,000 for heat pumps via the Solar Homes program and $500 through the Victorian Energy Upgrades program)
Potential energy savings and emissions reductions
Eligible households could save up to $250 annually, with even greater savings for homes equipped with solar panels.
Connect with Trusted Installers
The tool also lets users explore SEC-endorsed local installers, ensuring expert advice and detailed quotes for heat pump installations.
A Broader RolloutAlready launched in Ballarat, Casey, and Merri-bek, the pilot has reached over 6,000 households within two months. By simplifying the switch to electric appliances, the SEC aims to empower Victorians with practical steps for improving energy efficiency—whether through small upgrades or larger investments.
Empowering Communities for the Energy Transition
Victorian Minister Lily D’Ambrosio emphasized the SEC’s role as a trusted one-stop-shop, helping families lower energy costs and enhance their home’s energy performance.
