New Funding to Boost EV Range and Battery Efficiency
The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) is investing $4 million to support AnteoTech's breakthrough silicon anode technology for lithium-ion batteries. This three-year, $11.1 million project aims to lower battery costs and extend EV driving ranges by enhancing energy density in lithium-ion cells.
A Step Forward for Australia’s Battery Technology Landscape
Traditional lithium-ion batteries rely on graphite anodes, but AnteoTech’s innovative silicon anode design, strengthened by their proprietary Anteo XTM binder, mitigates cell degradation—a common limitation of silicon anodes. With ARENA’s support, AnteoTech will upscale its production in Brisbane, conduct extensive testing, and provide prototypes to industry partners.
Benefits for Australia’s Renewable Energy and EV Markets
ARENA’s CEO, Darren Miller, emphasized that this technology could redefine energy storage by offering more affordable, higher-density batteries. The project is expected to boost Australia’s manufacturing capabilities and play a role in achieving net-zero goals by enhancing renewable energy storage options across industries.
